VERTICAL WITH HAMANN
It is a great pleasure for me to present this interview with Horst Hamann

TURİZMİN SESİ-HANDE KURT

“Mannheim Vertical” Exhibition can be visited until 16 January in 2011 Beyoğlu Municipality Art Gallery . The German photographer Horst Hamann found a specifically artistic expression for the language in the context of the compact built landscape pressing into the vertical space of cities. Hamann has celebrated international success with his method following architecture's imperative and applying the panorama camera into vertical heights.

Voice of Tourism : Please tell us shortly about yourself.
Horst Hamann : “ German, born in 1958 in Mannheim ;New Yorker by heart since 1978. Taking pictures since I am 11 years old. Self taught. Married with French photographer Marie Preaud. Two American sons, Mateo and Paolo.”

Voice of Tourism :Why is photography important for you? What do you enjoy most photographing? Horst Hamann : ”It's a universal language like football, you don't need an intepreteur. To observe . The architecture of composition. Every picture has a different static like a melody within the four corners.”

Voice of Tourism: Who or what influenced you about Mannheim Vertical?
Horst Hamann : “Myself. I photographed New York Vertical from 1991-1996, than Paris and Hong Kong. That was enough training to re-discover my hometown vertical .

Voice of Tourism : You told us “it was my first visiting to Turkey. What do you think about Istanbul and Turkish people? Horst Hamann: “ Istanbul is overwhelming. A huge megapolis , a boiling pot between two continents. A city sourrounded by water and defined by thousands of vertical minarettes pointing towards the sky. The people are extremely friendly and relaxed. You immediately feel adopted. Voice of Tourism: What do you think about German-Turkish friendship? Horst Hamann :” Very important. In my hometown Mannheim we have a long and friendly history, going back at least 45 years. That's 3 - 4 generations. I have Turkish friends who speak cleaner German than myself. Welcome to the 21st Century. Voice of Tourism :Could you please summarise your future plans? Horst Hamann: Make more time for my family and friends... and of course take more pictures. The mental polaroids are always clicking. Voice of Tourism :What are your fundamental principles in becoming a successful professional? Horst Hamann: “Follow your instincts. Do not loose the passion...”
